Every once in a while someone says to me, "Bob, you have a Ph.D! Just what is a Ph.D.? Piled Higher and Deeper? A Phony Doctor?" I never had a good answer, except for "One: my name is not Bob. Two: Get the hell away from me before I unseal a tin of whoop-ass." I actually had to start carrying around a little foam professor (originally a giveaway from Mentor Graphics) to throw at people who called me Dr. McGuire.

Anyway, I just ran across The illustrated guide to a Ph.D., which shows exactly what a Ph.D. means. Buy a copy right now! It's important.
